Extended MHRA licence for Elinzanetant (Lynkuet) in breast cancer  patients

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has extended the licence for elinzanetant, an NK1/NK3 receptor antagonist, for the treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms in women receiving adjuvant endocrine therapy for breast cancer. This is the first medicine specifically licensed for this indication.

The licence extension represents an important regulatory development for the management of vasomotor symptoms in women with, or with a history of, breast cancer or other estrogen-dependent malignancy, where hormonal treatment may be unsuitable or contraindicated.

As with all treatment decisions, the potential benefits and risks should be assessed on an individual basis, in consultation with the patient's oncology team where appropriate.

Elinzanetant has not yet been assessed by NICE and is not currently available on the NHS.
